A Green Legacy: Planting Hope in Addis Ababa
Our team arrived early in the morning when it was still quiet. We brought our cameras, brochures, caps, and t-shirts, and got there just as the sun was rising near the new Bole Airport on Goro Road. We were there to take part in the Green Legacy program.
By the time we reached the planting site, the energy was already high. Hundreds of eager volunteers stood beside freshly dug holes, waiting to bring life to the earth, and the excitement was there. we wore t-shirts to mark our territory with Temer’s flags and got to work.
The event also served as a powerful reminder of our company’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement. Every tree planted was a step toward a greener Addis Ababa, a healthier environment, and a stronger bond among its people.
Leadership in Action
A few minutes into the planting, Her Excellency Mayor Adanach Abebie arrived, rolling up her sleeves to plant a tree herself. After motivating the crowd with her action, she departed, but her presence left a lasting impact, proof that leadership is about action.
At 9:30 AM, as we neared the end of the planting, the cameras came out to capture the day’s achievements. Temer families were shouting “Temer properties” with amazing joy. The event culminated with an inspiring speech by Dr. Eshetu Lema, Chief Executive Officer of Bole Sub City, who highlighted the critical role of urban greenery in food security, clean air, and overall well being.
“One of the main criteria of being a city is having a minimum of 30% tree coverage,” Dr. Eshetu noted. “Five years ago, our city had only 2.7%. Today, we’ve reached 22%, a dramatic improvement, but our work is far from over.”
His words reinforced the urgency of our mission. Cities thrive when they prioritize:
- Sufficient Green Areas; Aiming for at least 30% tree coverage.
- Diverse Green Spaces; Parks, urban forests, and green roofs that support ecosystems and recreation.
- Accessibility;Ensuring every resident can enjoy nature’s benefits.
Our Public Relations Manager Mr. Aklilu Abraham added a few notes about the event of how we are grateful and happy of being part of the green legacy of Addis Ababa . He thanked Bole sub city, Temer property families and everyone who participated in the program to make the whole event possible and ended the tree planting event officially.
As the sun began to burn, we left with dirt on our hands and pride in our hearts. This event was more than just a tree planting initiative, it was teamwork, and a promise for the future.
We may have started with a small tree, but what we planted was hope. And as these trees grow, so too will our commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Addis Ababa.
Together, we’re planting the seeds for a cleaner, greener, and more vibrant Addis Ababa!
